My Approach

As a Clinical Psychologist, I like to work integratively, drawing on many models and theories of evidence based practice.  My approach draws strongly from principals of:

  • Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy - Understanding one's thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how they are linked, creating vicious cycles we can find our self stuck in.  CBT focuses on understanding and challenging our thought processes, as well as making behavioural changes, which in turn can help how we feel.  This is a skills based therapy, encouraging individuals to learn and adopt tools and techniques to better their wellbeing.  It is a practical and goal-oriented approach that can be used to address a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and many others.

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy - This type of therapy focuses on improving your relationships and how you interact with others. It recognises that our relationships and social connections can greatly impact our mental health and well-being.  IPT helps you identify and address specific problems in your relationships that may be contributing to your emotional difficulties. It aims to improve your communication skills, enhance your ability to resolve conflicts, and create healthier and more satisfying connections with others, enhancing your overall well-being in the process.

  • Systemic therapy - This is a relational therapy, that views individuals as part of larger systems such as in a family or couple, and understands and examines one's problems within in this context.  This therapy seeks to improve overall functioning by promoting healthier interactions and communication among all members involved.

 

Rather than using a 'one box fits all' approach, I have found understanding one's challenges and goals, helps us to collaboratively develop a personalised treatment plan, whilst remaining compassionate to one’s needs.

Getting the right help is important, and I offer a free consultation so that we can speak and get an understanding of each other. I value being empathic and genuine, therefore if I do not believe I am the right person for your goals, we can discuss other avenues and how to gain different types of support.
